A ducting reducer is needed, if you want to enlarge or reduce the diameter of the air supply.
This could happen, if you want to install an additional activated carbon filter or if you want to change the course of the airflow i.e. via an angle piece like the Y-angle. Usually the points of intersection are additionally sealed with a hose clamp, a connection sleeve or duct tape.
