The chillum is a smoker's tool known from india. First you place the stone in it, it prevents the mixture from being sucked in. On top of this stone your mixture is placed. Then a wet cloth, sometimes called "safi", is wrapped around the mouth piece, this will soften the smoke.
While smoking you lay your head into the neck and the chillum is held upright. Thereby the hand forms a fist and the chillum is held in it, so that the mouth piece with the cloth is locked by thumb and index finger. With a few strong drags the chillum is lit and then inhaled deep.
The clay of this chillum is burnt together with cow dung. That where the special color comes from. But I can assure you, that you won't be able to taste this procedure ...
