The chillum is a smoker's tool known from india. First you place the stone in it, it prevents the mixture from being sucked in. On top of this stone your mixture is placed. Then a cloth, sometimes called "safi", is wrapped around the mouth piece, this will soften the smoke.
For smoking the head is laid in the neck and the chillum is held upright. Thereby the hand forms a fist and the chillum is held in it, so that the mouth piece with the cloth is locked by thumb and index finger. With a few strong drags the chillum is lit and then inhaled deep.
It is said that the hippies brought the chillums to our part of the world. Together they gathered around the bonfire and praised several indian divinities with smoking the chillum.
